Bell Ringing - The ultimate team activity

Recently, the Ringers at North Marston Church have been ringing more often. We want to let people know a bit more about what we do…

Have you ever thought about what Bell Ringing is?

Or even learning to Ring?

What is Bell Ringing and why do people do it?

Bell Ringing is a sociable team activity that gets you thinking and helps keep you fit.  We ring the Church bells in order to call people to service at the church; we also ring for Weddings, Funerals and other special occasions.  We also ring church bells because we enjoy it!  And some ringers like to visit new towers and ring “peals” and “quarter peals”

Who can Ring?

Anyone, as long as you are over 10 years old, you can learn to ring.

Want to Learn to Ring?

At North Marston we have a long draft ring, this means that the ceiling to where we ring is very high up.  Ringing is an activity that provides a good workout mentally and physically (in other words keeps you going!)  People over the age of 10 can learn to ring at North Marston and it is a great hobby to join.

We offer to take on new learners at our own tower at certain arranged times called "Ringing Practices" or if we have lots of learners a special dedicated "Learners Practice"

When ringers have learnt properly how to ring, they will be welcomed at other towers that practice on different days of the week, as well as ours.

On Mondays, some of the ringers that practice fairly frequently go over to Great Horwood, where there are also 6 bells but not a long draft.  The bells are rung from a ringing room (or Ringing Chamber) which is one floor below the Bell Chamber
